There have many parents those who are worried about the health of their baby including height and weight. A survey shows that the average weight of a baby at birth is about 7½  pounds in the USA. After birth the growth of a baby can be vary in different steps of its life. Indeed, there have no perfect ideal for a baby’s height and weight. But most babies follow a growth pattern. It will be better if you can track your baby’s development according to a growth chart so that it can be helpful for your pediatrician to see wheater your baby is growing perfectly in a healthy way.

But the real truth is that only 50% baby follow these ranges and 25% of them follow above these ranges and other 25% stay bellow these rates.

Keep in mind that most babies gain double weight at the stage of 6 months as they were after birth. If you notice that your child’s height and weight do not progress according to this chart and physical skills such as sitting up, standing or walking are slow then you may call a specialist doctor to prevent upcoming hazards. Growth failure can causes different problems in future. Even it can delay the mental development, Late puberty of your baby.

Exams and tests to diagnose growth failure : When you are in a doctor’s house about this problem, the doctor can ask your baby’s birth weight and height. So do not forget to note down your baby’s birth weight and birth height. To know the child’s projected potential adult height, the doctor may ask parents height and timing of puberty in the parents. The doctor also can measure the limbs and trunks of your child to ordain the body proportion.

The following blood tests may be perform by the doctor :

  • Test of growth hormone stimulation or several insulin tests
  • Test of thyroxine and thyroid-stimulating hormone
  • serum electrolyte levels
  • Sedimentation rate and complete blood count

 

After diagnose specific problems, follow your doctor’s prescription to get a better result.
